In medieval timesm Vidisha District of Madhya Pradesh was of substantial importance as is testified by the numerous ruins of other temples. The Gadarmal Temple is visible from a long distance, due to its magnum height, and divided into two distinct parts, belonging to separate centuries.
The basement and the porch, which are remnants of the original Gadarmal Temple, belong to 9th century AD. But, the shikhara has replaced the original one, and is made up of heterogeneous pieces collected from the ruins of Jain and Hindu temples.
