One of the oldest engineering colleges of the country, the Indian Institute of Technology at Roorkee, is at G.B.Pant University, Uttarakhand. Other universities of prime importance are the G. B. Pant University in Pantnagar, Kumaun University in Nainital and Almora, and the H.N.B. Garhwal University in Srinagar. The literacy rate of Uttarakhand is higher than the national literacy rate. The government of Uttarakhand is trying to explore every opportunity to extend education to every nook and corner of the state. Providing Computer Education to the secondary schools and midday meal schemes to the primary school is one of the schemes run by state School Education Department. The schools are providing midday meals in order to attract more and more students to school as a result there won't be any drop outs from schools.
