Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities in the world is also believed to be the place where Shiva resides. This old city is rich in having a cultural and historical heritage of India. The prominence of Varanasi in Hindu mythology is virtually unrivaled. This ancient city, rich in its history, houses the Bharat Mata Mandir.
History of temple and God
This temple is not dedicated to any of the deities of Hinduism. In contrary, it is, as the name suggests, entirely dedicated to the human revelation of India popularly called the Bharat Mata in Hindi or Mother India. There is no bust or statue of Bharat Mata. There is a huge relief map of India carved out of marble. Both in latitude and longitude, this map is exact in scale. It is carved out in the white marble bought out of Makrana.
Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation inaugurated this temple. The temple is constructed on five distinct pillars. The five pillars vividly describe the five basic elements of creation- earth, wind, fire, water, and sky. The convergence of these five pillars into one symbolizes that every element has to plunge into the supreme.
How to reach and Accommodation
If one happens to stay in the vicinity, then autos, cabs or rickshaws can be hired to reach the temple located in the Kashi Vidyapeeth Campus.
