The Chhaudogya Upanishad comprises of eight chapters, and commences on the Om Mantra. Chandogya Upanishad is the part of Chandogya Brahaman that contains ten chapters. The 13th Khanda of Chapter Three deals with meditation on the door keepers. According to it the heart has five doors that are controlled by Devas. The door located on the eastern side is the prana. It is the eye that is Aditya, the sun. One must adorn it and meditate on it as brightness as well as the source of food. A person who knows this realises it becomes bright and a consumer of food. The gate within the heart located on the southern side is the vyana. It is the ear that is Chandrama (the moon). One must adorn it and meditate on it as prosperity and fame. A person who knows this and realises it becomes prosperous and famous. The gate within the heart located on the western side is the apana. It is speech that is Agni (fire). One should adorn it and meditate on that as the radiance of Brahman and the source of food. A person who knows this and realises it becomes radiant and an eater of food. Next, the gate located on the northern side is the samana. It is the mind that is Parjanya (the rain god). One should adorn it and meditate on it as fame and beauty. A person who knows this and realises it becomes famous and beautiful. That which is the upper gate is the udana. It is Vayu that is the akasa. One should meditate on that as strength and greatness. A person who knows this and realises it becomes strong and great. These five gates of the heart are the five servants of Brahman. They are also known as door keepers of the world of heaven. One who knows this and realises these five servants of Brahman, the door keepers of the world of heaven is blessed with a hero who would take birth in his family. Thus, he who knows the five servants of Brahman himself attains the world of heaven.

The light that shines above this heaven, above all the worlds, above everything is the same light which is within man. One should worship as Brahman that inner light which is seen and heard. One who is aware of this becomes conspicuous and famous.
