In India, meditation is used for personal development, better concentration, for spiritual closeness, to impart calmness, love, purity, well being and truthfulness.

Meditation
An comprehensive study on meditation or dhyana, with information on different aspects of how to meditate and turn one`s awareness inwards.Meditation is an alternative therapy.Meditation is a method for acquainting our mind with virtue. The more familiar our mind is with virtue, the calmer and more peaceful it becomes. When our mind is peaceful we are free from worries and mental discomfort, and we experience true happiness. If we train our mind to become peaceful we will be happy all the time, even in the most adverse conditions.

 
Types of Meditation
There are numerous ways in which meditation can be practiced. There are also, numerous types of meditation, which one can practice. All the meditation techniques can be grouped into two basic approaches: Concentrative meditation and Mindfulness meditation.Concentrative meditation focuses the attention on the breath, an image, or a sound , in order to still the mind and allow a greater awareness and clarity to emerge. Mindfulness meditataion "involves opening the attention to become aware of the continuously passing parade of sensations and feelings, images, thoughts, sounds, smells, and so forth without becoming involved in thinking about them."

 
Meditation Techniques
The various techniques of meditation can be classified according to their focus.There are a number of effective techniques for meditation. Different cultures and schools have different meditation techniques though meditation is universal. The different techniques of meditation suit different personality types. While some techniques are concentrative i.e. involves focusing, other techniques are expansive which allows free flow of thoughts and the observation.

 
Transcendental meditation
Transcendental meditation, commonly known as TM, is the most common and widely used form of meditation. This meditation involves the repetition of a sound or a particular mantra, whose repetition, practiced with guidelines enables the mind to settle down and relax. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced the Transcendental meditation in 1958. He was also the leader of the Transcendental meditation movement.

 
 
Benefits of Meditation
Meditation is the process of rediscovering, enjoying and using the positive qualities, which have been dormant in you. Like any skill Meditation too requires practice to achieve positive and satisfying results. By doing meditation a little everyday, it soon becomes a natural habit and rewards you generously for the little effort you put in.

 
Kundalini Meditation
Kundalini is the energy that sustains our efforts of our free will. Kundalini is aroused for use by holding positive attitudes. Meditation arouses kundalini as when we sit in a quiet posture our automatic body posture finds a minimal rhythm and our mind is energized fully. Our positive attitudes and subsequent positive thoughts awaken Kundalini.For Kundalini meditation one has to sit on floor on a cushion in a cross-legged posture or to sit in a chair. The sitting position should be head erect, spine straight, eyes closed and hands folded in lap.

 
Zen Meditation
Zen Meditation or Zazen is a concept of seated meditation. Zen Meditation is performed when seated and this is a discipline performed to calm the body and mind and experience insight into the nature of existence. The most important aspect of Zen Meditation is its spread from India to China, to Japan, to other parts of Asia and then finally to the West.
