 Akashiganga Falls is a beautiful and amazing tourist attraction where every year a huge number of tourists come. It has a sacred place with the ‘Shakti Cult’ in the Kalika Purana. Pilgrims take a sacred dip in the waterfall. The waterfall along with other ruins of historical significance holds an intrinsic appeal. It is the largest water fall in Assam. The falls drop by 140 feet. Akashiganga waterfalls form a stream known as ‘Bablang’.
Location of Akashiganga Falls Akashiganga Falls is situated at a distance of 12 kilometres in the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is situated close to Doboka town on the Dimapur - Doboka Road which is 50 kilometres from th e southeast of Nagaon district in Assam. Myths of Akashiganga Falls Akashiganga Falls is believed to be associated with the legend of Sati (the consort of Lord Shiva) mentioned in the 8th century Kalika Purana. It was the seat of the Doboka kingdom in Assam. This was mentioned in the Allahabad inscription of the Emperor Samudragupta of Gupta Empire according to some historians. The Akashiganga waterfall, near Doboka is a favourite with many tourists. Akashiganga provides a magnificent view of the Brahmaputra River that flows far below. The place is often revered for its legends which believes that Lord Shiva when saw the dead body of Sati, could not resist himself from anger and started doing Tandava (the dance of destruction). To bring him (Lord Shankar) out of attachment for the dead body (of Sati) and save the world from destruction, Lord Vishnu used his "Sudarshan Chakra" to cut the body into pieces. During this process, it is said that, the head of Sati fell in the area, located about is 12-kilometres from Malinithan in West Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh. This place is called Akashiganga and is a very popular as a sacred place. Attraction of Akashiganga Falls Apart from the ruins of other historical place, the Doboka kingdom, there is also a lake called ‘Akashiganga Lake’ which will also attract a number of tourists. It also presents a magnificent view of River Brahmaputra which flows close to the waterfall. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva here. 100 meters down this path, there is a glowing object in the Kund. The object is no more visible while getting closer. Pilgrims take a holy dip in this Kund. Akashiganga is also famous for its wild life. There are vast areas of wildlife found here. The wild elephants here are very famous. Visiting Information of Akashiganga Falls The nearest airport to this falls is Leelabari airport located at Lakhimpur district which also serves the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The nearest railway station is Chaparmukh about 28 kilometres from Nagaon. Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport is located 129 kilometres away. There are buses that ply on the highway. Taxies are accessible from the railway station and airport to the Akashiganga Waterfalls. |
