Indian film director Shekhar Kapoor was born on 6th December 1945. He is the producer-director of many films. His basic schooling was done at the Modern School, New Delhi and also in Doon school. He did many prominent works in his life. His works include Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age, both fictionalized accounts of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I the 1998 movie was nominated for 7 Oscars In 2000, he was awarded the Padma Shri. Shekhar Kapoor is the nephew of actors Vijay Anand and Dev Anand Kapur. He was first discouraged by his father to get into show business. At the age of 22, Kapur became a chartered accountant,studied accountancy to please his parents. He moved to Great Britain, and spent several years working as an accountant and management consultant. He was married to singer and actress Suchitra Krishnamurthy but their marriage did not work out and they got aperted in the year 2007. In 2006 Kapoor formed Virgin Comics and Virgin Animation an entertainment company focussed on creating new stories and characters for a global audience. Shekhar Kapoor made the controversial film Bandit Queen that gained International attention when it was banned by the Indian government. He is the co-creator and also the Executive Producer of Bombay Dreams, which is a music driven theatrical love story that played to packed houses and critical acclaim in London`s West End for almost two years and is now on Broadway. On the screen, he worked as executive producer in the films like The Guru and mentoring some of Asia`s most dynamic young filmmakers. Shekhar`s own upcoming projects include a biographical feature based on the life of South African leader Nelson Mandela. He is also doing on a project in the India based drama Water which is set in the near future in a city of 20 million where water becomes a weapon of economic and political exploitation.

Very recently Shekhar Kapoor has provided the voice of Mahatma Gandhi in the Charkha Audio books title of `The Story of My Experiments with Truth -autobiography of M.K. Gandhi`, alongside Nandita Das as narrator. He is alo splanning the third project of Elizabeth. He is also connected with an indian talkies film company with Ram Gopal Verma and Mani Ratnam which is for producing the films.
