Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a highly acclaimed director who is very much attached to his mother. He also adopted the middle name `Leela` as a tribute to his mother, Leela Bhansali. He was born and brought up in Bombay. He graduated from the prestigious Films and Television Institute of Pune. He is a passionate director who can create the feel of pain in a marvelous way. In his pieces of work it depicts pain in his own form. In most of his work lastly the livers get parted and the film gets another look. He is a man of nature. He also shows the disease called Alzheimer where the director himself feels that it`s a frightening disease where people forget everything.

He share very good friendship with some people in industry and one of them is Salman Khan who is the hero of his three films. In his last production `Saawariya` also he has casted Salman Khan for a short role. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a good writer. He writes script for his own film as well as done other projects. He has written the screenplay of `1942: A Love Story`. Very recently he has bought the rights of a book written by Mayank Austen Soofi titled "A Sudden Visit to Pakistan: Heera Mandi The Dream Home of The Whores".

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is an awsome director, won a huge number of awards in his lifetime though he has made very few number of films still his bag is full with accolades. `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam` starring Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai has been awarded as best Movie while his fist venture `Khamoshi: The Musical` has been awarded as Critic`s best picture. His film `Black` has been awarded National film award for best feature film in Hindi. `Devdas` got many awards. It also got nominated for British Academy award in the category of film not in the English language. His `Black` created record of getting the most numbers of filmfare awards in the year 2006. Previously it was under the hold of `Dilwale Dulhaniye Le Jayenge` and Sanjay`s own film `Devdas`. It has won the best movie and also critic`s award for best movie which is a great exception.
