Bombay Vikings , Indian Band
Bombay Vikings can truly be called dedicated and intense, when different genres of music are considered.

In the year 1994, Bombay Vikings was formed in Stockholm, Sweden. Mats introduced Neeraj Shridhar to Oscar Soderberg. This is how three very talented musicians came in close proximity. Each is experienced in his own field. The band was primarily formed due to one shared common interest- the love for Indian melodies no matter what it was- Hindi films or Classical Music.

Neeraj possesses excellent qualities of controlling voice, enunciation and sheer range that became sound vocals base. His wide array of compositions range from pop, rock, hip-hop, ending in jazz, soul and reggae. With his rigorous attempts, he tried endlessly to take the band onto a higher plain. Mats, possessed with marvellous lungpower-ushered in the rich sounds of the saxophone. He is an authority, when it comes to jazz music. While making music for the new band he with his usual style used this knowledge to cash in the moolah.

Bombay Vikings Mats & Johan Folke both are `Keyboard specialists` who have used their years of exposure to work up magic on the keys of the synthesizer. Later on, Morgan on the drums, Par on the bass and Staffan as a lead guitarist joined the band. Eventually, Bombay Vikings started performing live all over Sweden and Norway. When all the musicians got together to jam, little did they know that they would invent a new form of music. But they found opportunity to do something creative for the land of their favourite brand of music, India. Whatever they were working out in Sweden, their heart was always back there, in India.

In spite of the fact that Neeraj had changed his base to Sweden, his heart still swung to the music of Indian tunes like `Oh Mere Sona Re`, `Mere Sapno Ki Rani`, and `Mere Samne Wale Khidki Mein`, playing unremittingly in his mind. But soon he realized that though the tunes rang clearly in his mind, the words came with difficulty. When he was journeying from Stockholm to Uppsala by train, while looking out of the window he saw a car running parallel to the train. Suddenly flashes of Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in `Aradhana` came to his mind. He recalled the famous lyrics from the movie, which ultimately led in to self-composition:

Give your heart to me; I`ll be your lover boy

I`ll be your sweetest candy and your huggy toy!

Words began to pour out in a flow and the song was accomplished inside the studio which began with- `She`s A Heart Breakin` Woman` - the rest is history. Apart from the above-mentioned songs, his album had the title song "KYA SURAT HAI" which made its way straight into the heart of youth culture. For almost 11months the album listed itself on the top of all chartbusters. All over the world the popularity of Bombay Vikings increased in leaps and bounce.

With their next album "Woh Chali Woh Chali", Bombay Vikings was back again. The video of this album was all about `how the sheer exuberance of the music makes the crowd forget their blues and sway away to rhythm`. For over a year, `Woh Chali` repeated itself on the Top 10 of all music channels. The album is believed to have sold more than 7 lakhs units and is still going strong. The fact that Bombay Vikings were immensely admired, made the music company to release another two videos of the album `Woh Chali` on the tracks of `Jambola` & later on `Angel Eyes` (shot in Australia). In every discs & parties both these numbers made a prompt entry in order to lift further sales.

"Hawa Mein Udati Jaaye" was Vikings` next album. It was released in the recent past at a swanky Mumbai nightclub, with much fanfare. On the occasion, Neeraj Shridhar gave a small but significant performance. Neeraj spoke about his new album along with Shivaji Gupta, vice-president A&R/Commercial, Universal Music India, and gave a preview of the video and the tracks. He spoke about `his musical influences and how he misses India since he lives in Sweden`. He also sang a special ghazal that his dad had composed for him. The album contains nine new heart beating numbers. Two Videos `Hawa Mein Udati Jaaye` followed by `Tera Mera Pyaar Sanam` have already been released and have received mind-blowing response from all over the world.
