Vijender Singh, Indian BoxerVijender Singh Beniwal is a talented Indian boxer who was born in the year 1985 on 29th October. He is also known as Vijender Singh or Vijender Beniwal. He is a bronze medallist at the Olympic He was born in Bhiwani district in the Indian state of Haryana. The early days of Vijender Singh Beniwal were spent in his village where he did his schooling, after which he received a bachelor`s degree from a local college in Bhiwani. He received his boxing training from Bhiwani Boxing Club. It was here that, Jagdish Singh, who was the coach, recognized his talent and encouraged him to take boxing as a profession.

Early Life of Vijender Singh
The early days of Vijender were spent in his village where he finished his schooling. He then received his bachelor degree from local college in Bhiwani. He practiced boxing at the Bhiwani Boxing Club where Coach Jagdish Singh recognized his talent and encouraged him to take to professional boxing.

Vijender went on to compete at the sub junior national where he won a silver medal for two consecutive years. He won medals for various competitions at both national and international. He successfully participated in 2004 Athens Summer Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Career of Vijender Singh
For the 2006 Asian Games held at Doha, he won the bronze medal after losing the semifinal bash against Bakhtiyar Artayev of Kazakhstan. For Beijing Summer Olympics, 2008, he, in the quarterfinals, won with a margin of 9-4 against the Carlos Gongora of Ecuador which guaranteed him a bronze medal-the first ever Olympic medal for an Indian boxer.

Following this win, which was in a way historic, Vijender was given a number of awards, including the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award-India`s highest sporting honour. He took part in the World Amateur Boxing Championships in the year 2009, which saw him winning bronze medal. The very same year, International Boxing Association (AIBA) announced Vijender as the top-ranked boxer in its annual middleweight category list with 2800 points. He is often credited for making the game of boxing popular in India, and making is attractive to the youth.

After his bronze medal win in the Olympics, Vijender emerged in the mainstream media as a prominent figure and became a pin-up boy. When he was not boxing, he was seen in various fashion shows walking the ramp with renowned models and famous Bollywood personalities.

He even appeared alongside Salman Khan in the popular reality show 10 Ka Dum. Other appearances includes the fourth season of the Indian dance reality show Nach Baliye with actor Bipasha Basu, and walked the ramp with Bollywood celebrities like Mallika Sherawat, Amrita Arora, Akshay Kumar etc.

His rise to the top rank of the boxing world has been an inspiration for the younger generation and has brought more aspirants and followers, to the sport
