The bile of the buffalo, wild boar, goat, peacock and rohitaka fish, is used in medicine, either singly or in combination under the designation of "Pancha Pitta" or the 5 biles. Bile is considered laxative and is chiefly used in soaking powders intended for being made into pill-masses.

Dose of Bile in Medicine
Udakamanjari Rasa: Take mercury, sulphur, calcined borax and black pepper each 1 part; sugar and the bile of rohitaka fish 4 parts each; rub them together for 3 days and make into 6 grain pills. These are given with ginger juice in recent bilious remittent fever. If there is much heat of head, cold water should be applied to it.

Gorochana or the concretions found in the gall-bladder of the ox are considered cooling, aromatic and useful in abortion and diseases supposed to be caused by evil spirits. Gorochana is sometimes given to infants in small doses as a laxative. It enters into the composition of some medicines for skin diseases.
