Thounaojam Kunjakishore Singh was the first Manipuri theatre artist to win a Sangeet Natak Akademi award.

Thounaojam Kunjakishore Singh, born in 1891, was a renowned Manipuri theatre artist. He was first to win a Sangeet Natak Akademi award. He won this award in 1978. Thounaojam Kunjakishore Singh trained under the eminent gurus patronized by the Maharaja`s court in Imphal, eventually himself serving as a guru at the palace school of theatre arts. His most memorable performances were as Jogai in Gaura Lila and Jagannath Mishra in Sansenba. He wrote several plays for the Vaishnava repertoire of Lila and critical literature on it. This famous personality also directed many productions. He died in 1982.
