Nandikar`s National Theatre Festival
An important theatre festival of eastern India is Nandikar`s National Theatre Festival. Started in 1984, the festival is organized every year in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal and is celebrated between 16th to 25th December. The festival takes its name from its organizers, Nandikar theatre group. Academy of Fine Arts, in Kolkata, serves as the venue for this grand theatre festival. Nandikar`s National Theatre Festival had been started with the twin aim of facilitating cultural integration in the country and to provide a forum to the theatre workers belonging to different nations for exchanging thoughts. Initially this festival was a part of Nandikar`s silver jubilee but later, owing to the huge acclamation it received, the group turned it into an annual festival. The festival showcases unique and stunning performances by theatre troupes from all over the world. Workshops and exhibitions are also a part of Nandikar`s National Theatre Festival.
