Steeped in history, the beach was the favourite of the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. The beach stretches for three kilometres and bears the remnants of the Thangasseri Fort and churches built in the eighteenth century. The Thangasseri Fort is a historical monument under Archaeological Survey of India. The ruins of the building can still be noticed in the area.
Another prime attraction of the beach is the lighthouse, which is located at a height of one hundred and forty four kilometres. It was constructed a century ago with the aim of guiding fishermen and sailors, along the reef riddled coastal waters. Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the tower only during the afternoon hours.
Those who are fond of handicraft items can visit the beach side stalls. Coir, coconut materials and sea shells handcrafted by local artisans can be purchased from the shops. The handmade materials exhibit the refined ethnic craftsmanship of the village.
