Syed Masood Hassan

Syed Masood Hassan or Masud Hasan Shahab Dehlvi was a well known Indian poet. Some of his compositions include Khawaja Ghulam Fareed, Khita E Pak Uch and Olya E Bahawal Pur.

Syed Masood Hassan, also known by his pseudonym Shihab Dehlvi or Masud Hasan Shahab Dehlvi, was a well known Indian poet. He was born on 20th October 1922 in Delhi to father Syed Manzoor Hassan Rizvi. After Syed Masood Hassan successfully completed his graduation and received a degree in Bachelor of Arts, he learned under Khayam Ul Hind Haider Dehlvi. During his early life, Syed Masud Hasan Shahab Dehlvi was appointed as an Indian army education instructor in Delhi in 1940. He also served as an information officer in Lahore in the year 1958. Later Syed Masood Hassan acted as the editor of Ilham in Delhi from May 1940 to August 1947. After the partition of India, Masud Hasan Shahab Dehlvi settled in Pakistan.

Personal Life of Syed Masood Hassan
He got married on 4th May 1947 and had several children namely Ghazala Kamal, Rashida Mansur, Saeeda Ali, Abid Rizvi, Zahid Rizvi, Shahid Rizvi, Mashood Rizvi and Shahood Rizvi. Syed Masood Hassan died in the year 1990 in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

Awards of Syed Masood Hassan
Ayub Khan, president of social services, honoured Syed Masood Hassan Shihab Dehlvi with a certificate and a license free fire arm. In the year 1998, Masood Hassan was ranked as the foremost research scholar on Khawaja Fareed and was awarded a Gold Medal by the Islamia University Bahawalpur, on the occasion of the centenary celebration of Jashn E Fareed. The Gold Medal was received by Shahood Rizvi, the eldest son of Syed Masood Hassan. He was also granted several honorary titles like Husain Sahar and Mustahiq Tu Hum Bhee Thay Azaz O Manseb Kay Shihab. Shahab Dehlvi played an important role in the political, social, cultural and literary life of Bahawalpur.

After the death of Syed Masood Hassan Shihab Dehlvi, his followers and students founded the Shihab Academy in order to continue his literary mission. Tabish Alwari, one of his students acted as its president.
