Swayambhu

Swayambhu means Self-manifested or that which is created by its own accord.

Swayambhu means Brahma or Mahat. Swayambhu is the self-manifested or that which is created by its own accord.

In Vaishnavism, based on details in Bhagavata Purana and Matsya Purana, Narayana or Krishna is said to be the Self-manifested or the Swayambhu. Lord Krishna is a form of Brahman as the first cause of creation.

In Shaivism it is believed that Lord Shiva is the Self-manifested Swayambhu. A number of Lingams of Shiva adornments of Hindu temple sanctum sanctorum have been held sacred as natural mounds. The Jyotirlinga at Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh is believed to be one such Swayambhu.
