Sumargad Fort

Sumargad Fort is one of the largest forts in Maharashtra, with an area of 120acres. This fort is located 19 km from the Khed city.

Sumargad Fort is one of the less visited forts in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. This fort lies east of the Khed. There are no human settlements around the fort. This fort comes along with Rasalgad and Mahipatgad. The fort is much neglected due to its difficult forest and the difficult way to get to the fort.

Structure of Sumargad Fort
Suamargad Fort is a very small fort, with fortification over an area of 120 acres. It has steep cliffs on all the sides. There are many rock cut water cisterns on the fort. There is a cave on the fort with Shivalinga.

Trekking Route to Suamargad Fort
There are two ways to reach Sumargad one; is from Mahipatgad and the other one from Rasalgad. The trek to this fort is through remote forest area. It takes about 2 hours from Wadi-Beldar and 4 hours from Rasalgad. The path to the fort is not in regular use and local guidance is required to reach the fort. The best months to visit the fort are from October to January.

Visiting Information of Sumargad Fort
Suamargad Fort can be reached by the hill routes from Mahipatgad or Rasalgad. There is little habitation near to this fort. Mumbai is nearest airport and Khed is nearest railway station from Suamargad Fort.
