Sujata Mohapatra has been a distinct performer of tradition old dance form Odissi.

Sujata Mohapatra, Indian DancerSujata Mohapatra has been regarded as the appropriated prototype of `beauty and poise`. She was inducted to this art form in her childhood. Since her childhood she has shown an intrinsic love for dance. Sujata Mohapatra was born and raised into a wealthy family that was enriched with an artistic environment. This kind of environment nurtured her creativity and brought out her inborn artistic style.

Other than being an accomplished dancer, Sujata Mohapatra has also another identity. She is the blessed daughter-in-law of the Late Guru Padmabibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra, the legendary advocator of Odissi dance. She was also the proud disciple of this legendary personality. Through her performance, Guru Padmabibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra`s heritage of Odissi dance, devotion and `blind passion for the classical dance form` has been reflected. Sujata Mohapatra has undergone 18 years stringent training under the strict supervision of Kelucharan Mohapatra. Her dancing skills have been molded into a graceful, committed style, which eventually led to preserving this dance form. Apart from dancing, Sujata Mohapatra has also learnt Odissi and at the Odissi Research Centre, Bhubaneshwar she has attended research work.

Sujata Mohapatra apart from performing dance also in an active manner involved in teaching Odissi. She holds the position of principle of the premier institution of dance, Srijan (Odissi Nrityabhasa), founded by his father -in-law. `Lithesome movements, awesome stamina and large radiant eyes` are the attributes of this outstanding performer. Experiencing her spellbound execution of Odissi dance, her audiences got awestruck. Her dance reflects the unagitated grace, vividness of expression and technical flawlessness that are considered to be the `unbending adherence to Guruji`s style` from her part.

One of the distinguishing attributes of her performance is the sculpturesque quality that is attractive undoubtedly. This fine sculpturesque quality has been regarded as a delicate touch of ornamentation to this traditional art form, Odissi. Sujata Mohapatra today has carved a niche for her amongst the contemporary generation of dancers and performing artists. Her execution of this art form has received acclamation from audiences` worldwide. Her audiences have been mesmerized with her `ethereal grace, stylistic perfection and the spellbinding charm` in each and every performance.

In all most all the prestigious occasion inside India and abroad, she has performed in an extensive manner. Some of her noted performances in the country like Germany for the Festival of India in the year 1992, in Canada, U.K. U.S.A. and Belgium in the year 1996, in Italy in the year1995 and in 1997 and in Malaysia in the year1997. As member of `Srjan` (Odissi Nrityabhasa), the dance troupe molded by Late Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Sujata Mohapatra has also conducted international performances. In a very recent time she has been awarded the esteemed "Mahari Award" in the year 2004. "
