Shat Tila Danam is a festival or ritual with the object of removing and expiation of sin. It is a sort of continuation of the Bhaimyekudesi. In Shat Tila Danam six different acts are to be performed. In this ritual Tila or sesame seeds, is an essential ingredient.

Steep religious and holy rules lace the ritual. The person who observes the rite must bathe in water. Then he should anoint himself with a paste made of tila. The paste of tila will have to be offered with clarified butter upon fire. He is then to present this paste with water to the names of his ancestors and later to eat the paste and distribute among others. This shat tila daman is observed for purification from sin, exemption from sickness and misfortune. The Brahma Purana mentions Shat tila daman as a sacred ritual..
