Shabir Mujahid is a prominent name in the field of Kashmiri theatre. He was born in the year of 1955. He is currently working as Assistant Station Director of Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar. After graduation, Shabir Mujahid attained a diploma in films and television production at Pune. His professional debut as an actor was in Bansi Nirdosh`s play Bos akh taniah or `Just One Desire`, for Kashmir Theatre in 1971. He has performed in several presentations of Kashmir Theatre, such as Ghulam Rasool Santostis Akanandun, Makhanlal Saraf`s adaptation of Marlowe`s Dr Faustus, and Sohan Lai Koul`s Safar or `Journey`. Some of his other memorable roles were in Zubir Rizvi`s Piya bajpyala or `The Friend and Cup` and Tipu Sultan, and Dina Nath Nadim`s Vitasta.
His success as director in Kashmiri theatre lies in his innovations in combining absurdist technique with social realism. Akhtar Mohi-ud-Din`s Vyeh ti abi katri or `Venom and a Drop of Water`, Hraday Koul Bharti`s Tijartuk asan teryiki or `Easy Method of Commerce`, and Shamas-ud-Din Shamim`s Byegurbani or `Cracked Vessels` are some of his admirable productions. He has also directed over thirty television serials and films. Bashir Dada`s Imandar, Amin Shakir`s Zul and Reh ti ab, Showkat Shahri`s Hush mush, and Zahid Mukhtar`s Kunyar are some of them to be mentioned.
