Satya Bandopadhyay, the Bengali actor was born in the year 1933

Satya Bandopadhyay, Bengali Theatre PersonalitySatya Bandopadhyay was a Bengali actor. He was born on 25th September, 1933 in Patna in the state of Bihar. He did his schooling from Lucknow Bengali School. After that, he finished his graduation from Ashutosh College which was followed by Masters in Chemistry from Science College under University of Calcutta. He was also very well-versed in German. But he didn`t complete his studies. In his professional life other than acting, he used to work in the accounts section of Tele Communication department of Government of India.

Life of Satya Bandopadhyay
He achieved fame with distinctive performances since 1952 in Utpal Dutt`s plays for Little Theatre Group and People`s Little Theatre. Some of the Chief among his roles were Subal in Titas Ekti Nadir Nam i.e. `Titas is a Rivers Name` by Ritwik Ghatak in 1963, Bisra Oraon in Tir i.e. "Arrow" in 1967, Lenin in Leniner dak i.e. "Lenin`s Call" in 1969, Haraballabh in Tiner taloyar i.e. `Three Sword` in 1971, Hayagrib in Surja shikar i.e. "Hunting the Sun" in 1971, Dr Anisuzzamanin Thikana i.e. "Address" in 1971, Otto Birkholtz in Barricade (1972), July, based on Romain Rolland`s original. Other translations and adaptations by him include Tolstoy`s War and Peace, and works by Ernst Toller and Elmer Rice. He has also published books on Brecht and Dutt in Bengali language.

He has learnt acting from Utpal Dutta. He is the one who introduced the great artist Rabi Ghosh to Utpal Dutta. He participated in almost the plays of Little Theatre Group. He has also written scripts for plays and some essays on intricacies of theatre. Ulka(1957), Balika Bodhu (1967) , Sesh theke Shuru (1969), Kuheli (1971), Jana Aranya (1976) Dadar Kirti (1980), Bouma (1986) are some of his memorable films. In 1976, he got B.F.J.A and West Bengal Cine Award for his performance in "Ekdin Protidin". He was also awarded Sangeet Natyak Academy in 1996.
