Salya is the name of the King of Madra. Salya was emperor of one of the mountain tribes occupying the southern slopes of the Himalayas. At the beginning of the Great War he was on the side of the Pandavas, but afterwards deserted them. He later drove the chariot of Karna in his combat with Arjuna. Salya obtained the command of the army for one day, the last of the war, and was slain by Yudhisthira.
