Rohan Sunil Gavaskar is an Indian Cricketer who has played 11 One day Internationals. He is the son of famous cricket player Sunil Gavaskar. Rohan Gavaskar is a specialist middle order left handed batsman and slow left arm orthodox bowler.
Personal Life of Rohan Gavaskar
Rohan Gavaskar was born on February 20, 1976 in Uttar Pradesh. He went to St. Xavier`s Collegiate School, Kolkata, Bombay Scottish School and then Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics for his education. He was attributed the name Rohan Jaivishwa by his father as a tribute to his three favourite cricketers - Rohan Kanhai, ML Jaisimha and Rohan`s uncle, Gundappa Vishwanath. But, his name is usually recorded as Rohan Sunil Gavaskar. Rohan married his childhood friend Swati Mankar.
Career of Rohan Gavaskar
Rohan Gavaskar has represented West Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, and East Zone in the Duleep Trophy in the domestic cricket. He has also served as the Bengal captain from 2001 to 2002. However, he was not successful as a captain.
Rohan Gavaskar was selected for the Indian cricket team in 2004 for Australia tour. He made his debut ODI after Mohammad Kaif was forced out of the team because of his injury. But he could not make anything worthy to notice and long lasting impression on international Cricket. As a result he was dropped for the subsequent against Pakistan. He played his last ODI during 2004 ICC Champions Trophy. Rohan Gavaskar played in 117 first class matches scoring 6938 runs at an average of 44.19, making 18 centuries and 34 half centuries with 212 not out being the highest score.
In 2007, Gavaskar inked a contract with the unauthorized Indian Cricket League (ICL) to play for the Kolkata Tigers. After violating his deal with the league he returned to mainstream Indian domestic cricket. After that he was selected to play in the third season of the Indian Premier League for the Kolkata Knight Riders, the franchisee from Kolkata. He played for KKR in the Indian Premier League till 2010.
