Richika is the name of famous Rishi and the son of Urva who married Satyavati, the daughter of king Gadhi.
In the Vishnu Purana and Mahabharata, Richika is portrayed as an old and bad-tempered Brahman. Richika demanded the marriage of Satyavati. Satyavati`s father, King Gadhi of Kanyakubja, was not willing to give her daughter in the hands of Richika. King Gadhi demanded one thousand white horses with one black ear.
Richika obtained all the thousand horses from Lord Varuna, the god of ocean at the holy place called Aswatirtha. Richika gave the horses to King Gadhi and married Satyavati.
Richika and Satyavati had a son named Jamadagni.
