Ratneswar Mahanta`s (1864-93) collection of poems is Kavitar har. Mahanta`s Gawalia bowari is written in the romantic tradition. It is a poetical picture of dedication. He is a poet who belongs to the transition period of Assamese literature. Gawalia bowari is a marked departure from the other poems of the period. The concluding lines are in a didactic manner. Its thought and imagery are neat. Mahanta`s Asomat Man was published in the journal of Jonaki. This gives evidence of the historical-cum-political prose.
