Ranbir Kaleka

Ranbir Kaleka is a well known Indian artist who has achieved significant international boldness during last few decades.

Ranbir Kaleka, Indian PainterRanbir Kaleka has painted on various types of media that ranges from oils on canvas, water colours, painting on shaped wood and digital photographs. Video installations represent the latest phase of the evolution of his interests.

Ranbir Kaleka was born in 1953 in Patiala in Punjab. He has held several group and solo exhibitions across the globe. He has received the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi and Sanskriti Award.

Hiss paintings are vibrant. He does not clinch the simple juxtaposition, superimposition in order to achieve a pluralizing effect.

His paintings are surrealist in their treatment of scenes from everyday life. His recent solo and group shows include Chalo India at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, in 2008; a multi-media installation commissioned to the permanent collection of the Spertus Museum, Chicago, in 2007; the Sydney Biennale, 2008; Urban Manners at Hangar Bicocca, Milan, in 2007; New Narratives: Contemporary Art from India at the Chicago Cultural Center in 2007 and many more. Kaleka currently lives and works in Britain.
