Ramakanta Chaudhury

Ramakant Choudhury is one of the poets who discarded the traditional forms used by transitional poets. He had adopted the blank verse.

Ramakanta Choudhury (1846-89) was one of he poets who were responsible for introducing a new thing in Assamese poetical orchestra thereby reviving the music by enlarging the scope. His blank verse epic Abhimanyu inzdh`s theme has been inspired by Mahabharata. The poem reveals the influences of a new technique. It also shows originality and the power to utilise natural expression in the new verse-form. This is a technically developed poem. His two mythological dramas are Sita haran and Ravan vadh.

He is considered as one of the innovators of blank verse. His inspiration was Michael Madhusudan Dutta.
