He is an Alumnus of The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering and Nutrition, Pusa, New Delhi. A man with esoteric skills and appetite, he is a teetotaler, a philosopher, herb gardener, fluent in several Indian dialects as well as having an amazing command over Hindi.

An enthusiastic and motivated chef and team leader with extensive knowledge in all aspects of food, Sethi has practical, technical and management experience in Food and Beverages areas of a hotel and is highly experienced in launching a new hotel, restaurant or flight kitchen. He has showcased classical Indian recipes to international connoisseurs, and using his innovative culinary skills and art of fusion, has made Indian food globally available.

Early Life of Rakesh Sethi
Rakesh Sethi was born on 17th January in a Punjabi middle class family. He studied in Central Schools and moved to various states where his father would get transferred to. Rakesh happened to travel and taste the food of several Indian States and learn the culture and languages where he stayed and studied. He is a post-graduate in English literature. His elder brother Vijay got him enrolled with the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering and Nutrition for a Diploma course where Rakesh got his Culinary Training in 1982.

Career of Rakesh Sethi
Rakesh Sethi, who entered the industry at the age of 19 was trained by the very best in India, and has held top positions at some of India"s leading hotels. He has remained "Executive Chef" at Inter Continental New Delhi and the TajSats Air Catering, New Delhi.

He was adjudged "Health Chef 2000" at a workshop-cum-competition organized by Indian Culinary Forum, Manpower Development Corporation and Salad Chef. His simple salad recipe of Spa Salad won him the title on the basis of calorie count, presentation and innovation. There onwards his interest in giving Indian food a healthy angle grew.

Chef Sethi has had the honour of being a part of the Household team of Honorable President of India, Shri R. Venkataramana.

Chef Rakesh Sethi has remained popular host of “Mirch Masala”, a weekly cookery show broadcast on STAR Plus channel. His simple, interactive style endeared him to his viewers, whether he was creating healthy meals for kids or banquets for traditional Indian festivities. Rakesh Sethi always provided his audience with innovative and contemporary spins on authentic Indian cuisine. He then went on to join the country"s first Indian food and lifestyle channel as Executive Editor and hosted the popular show "Tea Time with Chef Rakesh Sethi". He has also anchored a TV news show "Food This week", where he covered food-related events in India, especially in and around Mumbai.

Achievements of Rakesh Sethi

•Chef Rakesh Sethi has won accolades besides admiration, adjudged "Health Chef 2000", and "Salad Chef" by the Indian Culinary Forum, and fuelled his interest in giving Indian food a healthy twist.
•In 2012, he was honoured with the Most Admired "Celebrity Chef of the Year" award at the Golden Star Awards Ceremony.
•He is also highly experienced when it comes to training and mentoring amateur cooks, and has authored has more than 65 food-based DVDs; glimpses of his various shows can be seen on Youtube.com. His efforts to promote healthy food habits and easy-to-cook recipes have earned him the highest praise.
•Chef Sethi holds the position of “BIG Chef” at Reliance Broadcast Network Limited.
