Rajarambhau Ramchandra Kadam

Rajarambhau Ramchandra Kadam was born in the year 1887 in Parbhani. He belonged to a family performing Gondhal for several generations. With his rhythmic movements and graceful dance, his expressive face and powerful singing voice, he enthralled audiences throughout his career spanning more than eighty years. Rajarambhau Ramchandra Kadam also trained many young Gondhal performers. His repertoire consisted of around forty akhyans or narratives presenting tales from the Puranas, Ramayana, and Mahabharata, and propagated ideas enshrined in these works. Towards the end of his life, his troupe constituted three generations of his own family. He was given the honour of inaugurating the Bhakti Sangit Mahotsava at Pandharpur, Solapur district, in 1982. He also presented his art at the Festival of India in France and Holland in 1986. At that time he was at 99. Rajarambhau Ramchandra Kadam died in the year of 1990 at the age of 113.
