Purisai Natesa Subramaniya Thambiran was born in the village of Purisai, Tiruvannamalai District in 1933. He was the son of the illustrious Natesa Thambiran. He is the fourth generation of Terukkuttu artists from Purisai, whose genealogy goes back to his great-grandfather, Veerasamy Thambiran. He received training in his early boyhood from his father and uncles. After his father died in 1980, he started a troupe of his own. Natesa Subramaniya Thambiran diversified and performed all over India and participated in the Festival of India, USSR, in 1987. He is also engaged in training youth systematically in Terukkuttu.
