Pangi dance is a fascinating folk dance practiced in the Himachal Pradesh state of India. The dance is not performed in any particular festival but is generally performed by the villagers for sheer pleasure and entertainment.
Performance of Pangi Dance
This folk art form is usually performed by women. The performers stand in a circle and execute the steps in a slow form. The movements are small, supple and yet graceful. The hands remain raised and body straight while the participants turn from one side to the other. The regional folk songs mainly accompany the dance.
Musical Instruments of Pangi Dance
The dance is generally accompanied by a musical instrument known as `Dholak` which is a drum played by a male. Sometimes, trumpets called nagaras too provide beats to the dance.
Costume of Pangi Dance
The performers of Pangi usually wear colourful traditional attires. Jewelleries like necklace, bangle and ear ring complement their costumes.
