Origin of the Colonizing Movement

The Indian peninsula was a land of rich civilization and ethnic culture for many centuries. Several dynasties belonging to different race, creeds, religion etc have dwelled in India for several centuries. Moreover due to the convenient geographical location India had maintained an intimate association with the countries of Far East. The Indian kings established trade relations with the countries of the Far East. Moreover the foreign countries received the cultural messengers of India. Thus Indian civilization was planted to the colonies of the Far East. The cultural contact between India and the Far East was followed by deep political culminating in Indian colonization.

However the circumstances, which led to Indian colonization in the countries of the Far East are not definitely known. But the historians after a prolonged research put forward several theories in this respect. The eastern coast of India from the mouth of the Ganges to the Cape Comorin was dotted with numerous rich ports. The maritime trade in India attained a full-fledged success in the countries of Far East. As a result the indigenous culture received scope to flourish in the countries of the Far East. Moreover across the Bay of Bengal there were several small archipelagos. Those archipelagos were inhabited by the tribes like Malay and the indo- Chinese. These lands were very fertile and produced rich variety of spices. The Indian traders gradually settled up their colonies in these regions in order to build up their trade. The regions like Java, Sumatra being prosperous considerably attracted the Indian merchants. Hence the Indian culture and civilization, developed with a quick pace in the countries of the Far East. Finally with the wake of trade a lot of Indians migrated into these areas and settled up colonies. Thus the expansion of the Indian colonies in the Far East countries led to the prosperity of the Indian culture and civilization there.
