In the epic Ramayana, Nisakara is mentioned as a great sage. His hermitage or ashram was at the foot of the Vindhya Mountains.
Every evening at his ashram, Nisakara was lovingly escort to his abode by a troop of wild animals like lions, tigers, leopards, bears and many more. When Sampati lost his wings, he confers with Nisakara. Sampati asked the sage how he can lead a good life without the wings. Nisakara gravely answered that a being have to find happiness in others.
