Narsingh Dev Jamwal

Narsingh Dev Jamwal was an artist born in the year 1931. After a brief stint in the armed forces, he served in the Jammu and Kashmir Police till 1986, while writing since 1962. Narsingh Dev Jamwal was associated with several social and cultural organizations. He was a founder of Friends Club in 1965 and a prominent member of Dogri Sanastha. Both were important in Dogri theatre. He retired to live in Bhalwal, a village in Jammu district. Jamwal has composed eight full-length and many radio plays, known for their passionate style. Mandlik in 1972 and maryada i.e. `Self-respect` in 1975 was his popular early works. He based Alad goli vir sipahi i.e. `Royal Maid and Brave Soldier` in 1976, the first Dogri verse drama, on a folk song. Ramlila in 1987 consisted of seven two-hour plays for performance on seven consecutive days. Jamwal has scripted Dogri television serials, published novels, short stories, and poetry, and is a self-taught painter and sculptor.
