N. P. Chellappan Nair

N. P. Chellappan Nair was a Malayalam dramatist. He was born in 1972. He wrote in a pleasing, simple style, for merriment and pleasure. N. P. Chellappan Nair composed, directed, and acted in many humorous plays and skits. Spontaneous and boisterous laughter, at times ironical about contemporary politics, and satirical attacks on anything anti-people were his forte, in which hardly anyone excelled him in Malayalam theatre. N. P. Chellappan Nair was a scholar of Kerala history. N. P. Chellappan Nair published papers on life in ancient Kerala. Thus epic history and social problems, too, formed themes in his drama and fiction i.e. over 400 short stories. His twenty-two plays won awards and popular esteem, enacted and enjoyed in an unprecedented way. They include Pranaya-jambavan i.e. `Passionate Old Bear` in 1938, Lady Doctor in 1940, Minnalpranayam or `Quick Passion` in 1941, Vanamjakumari or `Forest Girl` in 1942, Lieutenant Nani in 1946, Ibilisukalute natti or `In Devils` Country` in I960, and Kshirabala or `Medicine` in 1966. Filmmakers were enthused to produce them and persuade the author himself to act roles. N. P. Chellappan Nair scripted and performed in K. Subramanyam`s mythological movie i.e. Prahladan in 1941. N. P. Chellappan Nair died in 1972.
