Mumtaz, Bollywood ActressMumtaz is a versatile actress who portrayed several characters onscreen with ease. Started to act at the age of 12, she made her debut in 1961 with film "Stree". She has acted in more than 100 films in a career span of 14 years in the industry. The 1970s proved to be an era which established Mumtaz as one of the most successful actress of Hindi Cinema and also she was widely recognized as the most beautiful and the best actress of Hindi Cinema. Mumtaz got noticed for her performances and they were considered outstanding by the film critics.

Early life of Mumtaz
Mumtaz is originally of Indo-Iranian descent. She was born in Mumbai in the year 1947 to Abdul Sameed Askari and Sardar Begum Habib Agha. At an age of 12 she entered filmdom.

Career of Mumtaz
Mumtaz appeared as a child actress in "Sone Ki Chidiya" (1958). Mumtaz was hardly 13 or 14 when she acted in a side role but soon she started doing the lead roles in several movies. Mumtaz first received attention in the year 1965 in the movie "Mere Sanam" for her supporting role as a vamp. This tremendous success was followed by another big-budget movie titled "Patthar Ke Sanam". Ultimately, in Dilip Kumar"s movie "Ram Aur Shyam" in the year 1967, Mumtaz attained chief attention where she was one of the leading ladies. The movie was a major hit. After that there was no looking back and she was flooded with numerous offers.

With time her career graph went up and she signed Raj Khosla"s blockbuster "Do Raaste" in 1969. After this movie, Mumtaz became hugely popular, and she accredited that even though she had a small role, it was still one of her favourite films. Mumtaz starred in several movies opposite Feroz Khan and other popular actors of that era like Jeetendra Kapoor, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna. The most impressive film of her career was "Khilona" (1970). It was her 1st film with noteworthy banner and role, Mumtaz received admiration of masses for her acting in this film. The latter film was with Rajesh Khanna where there was a time leap in the film and she acted prudently of the role of 50 years old lady whereas in the same film there was a popular number for even today"s generation "Jay Jay Shiv Shankar". After the movie "Aaina" (1977) she quit acting. "Aandhiyan" (1989) and "1 a Minute" (2010) were her later movies.

Mumtaz won several awards for her brilliant performances. She was conferred with several awards during her career.

Mumtaz was also voted the second-most-popular beauty in the poll conducted as part of the celebrations of 100 years of Indian cinema, in association with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), in 2012.
