The character of Mogambo is one of the most-remembered performances of Amrish Puri as well. This film becomes one of his landmark movies as well.

Synopsis of the Indian film `Mr. India`
The Indian film `Mr. India` is a hilarious movie, which also includes some of the serious problems in the society such as poverty, terrorism, etc. The film opens with the revelation that violence has escalated in India, alarming all who know this. The focus then shifts to reveal the main villain, Mogambo played by Amrish Puri. He has an empire filled with bad men. He has two henchmen. One of them is Teja played by Ajit Vachani and the other one is Daga played by Sharat Saxena. They arrive by helicopter to meet him. Teja and Daga report on their anti social activities to Mogambo. He is seen as an abnormally talented general who wants to take over India. When he becomes happy he says `Mogambo khush hua` but when he becomes depressed with something he says `Mogambo nahi khush hua`. This is usually a death sentence for his men. He lives in an isolated island with all the amnities to destroy the country. He is the king of that island who is saluted as `Hail Mogambo`.

The film runs a parallel story of Arun Verma played by Anil Kapoor. He is a tanent in a big house but an orphan. In his house he brings a dozen of orphan children aged five to twelve approximately. They call him `Arun Bhaiyya`. He and his friend cum cook played by Satish Kaushik take care of them. Arun is poor and can`t provide food to the children properly. He is always overdue on rent towards the landlord Roopchand played by Yunus Parvez. He loves these children as his real brothers and sisters. As time goes by, Calendar gently reminds Arun that cost of running the home continues to rise and that they need to supplement Arun`s meager takings as an ad-hoc violinist. Arun agrees and decides to rent out the sea-facing room on the first floor. When he goes to the local newspaper to run an advertisement for the room, he meets Seema Sohni played by Sridevi. After an amusing incident between them, he makes her his tenant despite her reluctance to live in company of children. Actually he hides the fact of having children in his house as she tells him that she doesn`t like children at all.

Mr. India, Indian film When Seema discovers the children, she feels deceived and gets angry. She tried to leave the house after taking the advance money but by that time Arun buys some rice and wheat with that money. So Arun tells her to stay there as long as he can`t give her money back. Seema agrees on one condition that Arun`s children will not disturb her at any point of time and she will be allowed to live in peace. After someday Seema gets attached to the children while she sees Arun`s troubles raising them. She eventually looks at them and becomes friendly with each child and mixes with them nicely.

Arun receives a letter from his father`s friend Dr. Sinha played by Ashok Kumar. Dr. Sinha tells an unusual story that Arun`s late father had made an instrument that could make any person invisible. It works like this whenever any person wears this he or she can become invisible and can do anything. Arun enters his father`s laboratory and finds the instrument. It`s actually a wrist band. He comes there along with Jugal, one of his childen. One drawback is when red light is focused on the person, he or she becomes visible. Arun and Jugal decide not to tell it to anyone. During that time Seema gets trapped in a show from where Arun escapes her taking the name of `Mr. India`. Seema gets attracted to Mr. India over a period of time.

Mr. India defeats Mogambo`s men many a times. He starts tuning their plans of creating violence in the country. Mogambo becomes curious to see this `invisible man`. One of his scientists, Mr. Fumanchu, tells him that Dr. Verma invented it some years ago. Dr. Verma did not give it to anyone and died. Mogambo gets the clue and his computer-aided brain reveals that Mr. India is no one else than Arun Verma. He gets this as Arun shares the same surname as Dr. Verma and in one of the casinos Arun was benefited some days back.

Mogambo plants different bombs in toys and other children loving place as he knows about Arun`s orphanage. One such bomb killed Arun`s favourite child Tina. Later, Arun, Calendar, Seema, and rest of the children are brought before Mogambo. Mogambo tortures them o know Mr. India`s true identity. No one tells Mogambo anything as one knows about it. Arun and Jugal are confused and don`t know what to do. Arun cannot become invisible as he drops it somewhere. Somehow they manage to escape. The children, Seema, and Calendar go one way, while Arun goes another. Seema now becomes aware of the fact that Arun is Mr. India. Mogambo despitefully activates four missiles to destroy the whole India. Arun fights with Mogambo and tries to stop the missile. The missiles explode on the spot. Arun, Calendar, Seema, and the children manage to escape, while Mogambo`s palace is destroyed. Mogambo dies in fires.

Arun presumably marries Seema and lives with their adopted brothers and sisters.
