Manas, Spirit in Rig Veda

Manas or Spirit in Rig Veda is a hymn which is written to recall the passing spirit of a human being during death.

Manas, Spirit, Hymn of Rig VedaManas or Spirit is one of the Hymns in Rig Veda which is addressed to recall the fleeting spirit of a man at the point of death. The Hymn states that the spirit that went away to Yama to Vivasvan`s son, it recalls the spirit to come back again to live and sojourn here.

In this hymn it is stated that the spirit that went away to the beams of light that flash and flow, that went to the waters and plants, that visited the sun and dawn, the spirit that went far away to the great heights of the mountains, the spirit that went away to the four cornered earth, the spirit that went to all that lives and moves, the spirit that went away to distant realms beyond our ken, is recalled by this hymn to return and dwell here.
