M. Boyer, Indian Theatre PersonalityM. Boyer was born on 11th October in the year of 1930. He was a popular Tiatr personality in Goa. He worked as author, director, and performer in over 5000 Tiatr shows both within the country and abroad, he was honoured by the Kala Academy of Goa as an outstanding artist during the Tiatr centenary celebrations. Boyer has also won the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 1994. His performance texts exhibit significant cross-pollination at the linguistic and cultural levels. He was a well-known composer and singer, who have recorded several albums as well. Boyer`s presence on the Konkani theatre stage has made a significant impact for over half a century. At the age of 15, he composed and sang his first song which gained him all round appreciation.

Life in Theatre for M. Boyer
It seems that M. Boyer wrote and presented his first play `Rinkari` at the age of 18. He was a composer, singer, script-writer, actor, director and producer as a whole. He has written, directed and produced more than 25-plays, participating in more than 5000 performances, Composing and Singing over a 1000 Songs, as well as performing in major Indian cities. He also has been a source of inspiration for a lot of other artistes.

While speaking to M. Boyer, he mentioned about his awards and pointed out some which were displayed in his showcase and added that he had to shift some to another place due to paucity of room in the same.

Some of the awards and recognitions that he has received for his meritorious and distinguished work can be mentioned as follows. He has been honoured for his distinguished services at the hands of Giani Zail Singh on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Goa`s Liberation in 1986. In the year 1984-85 was conferred with the coveted State Cultural Award by the erstwhile Govt. of Goa, Daman and Diu. In 1977, he got `Man of the Year` Award in Bombay. He also got Goa Post Award in 1991 at the hands of Amitabh Bachchan. In 1994-95 he got prestigious `Sangeet Natak Akadami` Award at the hands of the then Indian President, Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma. Boyer was also honoured by Gulab, Goa Hindu Association in Mumbai, Kullagar Prakasham, AITUC, Samraat Club International Goa for his 50-year dedicated service to the theatre, etc.
