Lakshmibai College, Ashok Vihar, New DelhiLakshmibai College has made its mark as a foremost institution promoting higher education for women. It was established in 1965 in remembrance of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, the legendary warrior and patriot. Being a constituent college under Delhi University, it is managed by a governing body that was selected by Delhi University as per recommendation of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Surrounded by sylvan surroundings, the college is housed in a spacious building of its own with beautiful lawns and employee quarters. Lying in the vicinity of Delhi University, Lakshmibai College is encircled by Ashoka Gardens in front and on the right hand side by a tract of green nurseries, picnic hub and a tourist resort.

Numerous departments function within the college, namely Bengali, Commerce, Economics, English, Food Technology, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Political Science, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Sociology. Lakshmibai College offers courses in various streams like Humanities, Social Science and Commerce. The college formulates the courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate level following the rules and regulation of Delhi University. The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is a 3 years degree course. An undergraduate student can enrol themselves in Bachelor of Arts (Pass) and Bachelor of Commerce (Pass) courses as well. Masters in Arts are offered with specialisations in Philosophy, Political Science and Sanskrit. A short-term certificate course in Energy and Environment Awareness is organised within the premises of Lakshmibai College under the aegis of the "Centre for Science Education and Communication", Delhi University. The course encompasses significant issues related to energy and environmental degradation.

Facilities of Lakhmibai College
Emphasis is given on extracurricular activities, so that there is an overall development of the student"s personality. Lakshmibai College offers facilities for providing training in several games and sports like volleyball, judo, table tennis, basketball, badminton, athletics and kho-kho.

Lakshmibai College has a well-stocked library including a spacious Reading Room. For facilitating a forum for nurturing the creative abilities, a college magazine is published every year. Here students can write in different languages like Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Bengali and Punjabi.

Miscellaneous facilities also are granted to the students by Lakshmibai College authorities. Each student is a member of World University Service (WUS) centre and rightly can use the medical facilities provided by them. The student common room is well decorated with all the arrangements for playing indoor games or simply to pass time in chit chatting. Another achievement of Lakshmibai College is that- the institution was chosen for wireless internet accessibility under the "University Wide Networking Programme of Delhi University Computer Centre".

Societies of Lakshmibai College
Enthusiastic students of Lakshmibai College can opt to join social welfare projects undertaken by National Service Scheme (N.S.S.). The wing of National Cadet Corps (N.C.C.) is equally active. It provides training in drilling, signalling, training in armoury, map studying, kid-concern and mother care.
