Khartok Monastery is the sixth oldest monastery of Sikkim. Located at a distance of 32 kilometers distance from Gangtok this is one of the major monasteries in East of Sikkim near Pakyong.

Khartok Monastery, SikkimKhartok Monastery is a major monastery of Sikkim and it has been named after the Lama who was part of the coronation of the first monarch of Sikkim. This is the sixth oldest monastery of Sikkim which is built on the lineage of Nyingma order. It was built during the reign of Chogyal Thutob Namgyal. The original monastery was destroyed but was replaced by new structure. The renovated version was, however, built on the old architecture and design which retains the cultural heritage of Sikkim.

The Khartok Monastery is located across the beautiful lake Kartok which is a treat to watch and the lake makes it amazingly beautiful. For its Buddhist architecture and colors, the Monastery offers a glimpse into the Buddhist way of worship.
