In the Vishnu Purana the story of Kesin is mentioned. Kesin is a powerful demon, who was ordered by Kansa, king of Mathura to kill Krishna.
Kesin disguise himself and assumed the form of a horse. The horse was spurning the earth with his hoofs, scattering the clouds with his mane, and springing in his paces beyond the orbits of the sun and moon. The frightening demon, Kesin however, soon had his mouth rent open by the arm of Krishna, and fell down. He was torn apart like a tree struck by lightning.
Kesin lay separated into two halves, each having two legs, half a back, half a tail, one ear, one eye, and one nostril. After this event Krishna was called Kesava.
