Kalaka, the daughter of Daksha was married to sage Kashyapa. On one hand in the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata Kalaka is said to be the daughter of Daksha. On the other hand, Vishnu Purana states that she and her sister Puloma were daughters of the Danava Vaiswanara. They were both married to Kashyapa and bore him sixty thousand distinguished Danavas, called Paulomas and Kalakanjas. The Paulomas and Kalakanjas were powerful, brutal, and vindictive.
The Mahabharata says that Kalaka was blessed by the deity and as a reward she could bear children without pain. The giants or Danavas were called after her Kalakeyas and Kalakanjas.
