K. Alakiricami

K. Alakiricami, also known as K. Alagiri Sami, was a well known Tamil author who has composed a number of short stories in Tamil language. His literary works have contributed much to the development of the modern era in Tamil literature. He has authored several Tamil short stories that have been written in a fascinating and striking manner. Most of the stories written by Alakiricami convey a valuable message and these are available in the compilation of short stories titled Tavappayan. Several of his other interesting short stories are also found in the collection of Varappiracatam. Most of the Tamil short stories written by K. Alakiricami are set in the backdrop of the villages on the northern part of the district of Tirunelveli. The traditions and manners of the region are well reflected through his stories.

Literary Works of K. Alakiricami
In the short story titled Anmakan, Alakiricami portrays the self-respect of a chef who is insulted by the women of the house. The womenfolk humiliate him and pay inadequate respect to his presence as a man in the house. Due the repeated insults and lack of respect as a man, the cook quits his work and leaves the house in order to maintain his dignity. K. Alakiricami wrote another short story named Putu Ulakam that depicted the tale of a grocer or Cettiyar in a village. The Cettiyar loses his peace of mind on establishing a business for himself in a metropolitan city and gathering wealth. Tiripuram is also one of the much admired short stories of K. Alakiricami which provides a detailed portrait of the famine in the Tamil country which occurred during the years 1955 and 1959. He has also written an exciting novel titled Doctor Anurata.

K. Alakiricami or K. Alagiri Sami was honoured with the many awards for Tamil for his contributions to modern Tamil literature and expanding the genre of short stories in Tamil. Even though the renowned Tamil author illustrates his confidence in the promising new world and warmly receives new features in his personal life, he seldom makes new experiments in narrating stories but he tells them persuasively, describing noble aims and elevated ideals.
