Jagbir Singh, Indian Hockey PlayerJagbir Singh is a former Indian hockey player, now emerged as a Coach in Indian hockey. Jagbir Singh was born on 20th February 1965. He is the former Indian field hockey player in Indian national and international arena.

Jagbir Singh was born and brought up in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. His father was Darshan Singh who also played hockey and organised the all-India Dhyan Chand tournament in the city.

Career of Jagbir Singh
Jagbir Singh played hockey in a team as Centre Forward represented India in two Olympics of 1988 and 1992. He also played in 1990 World Cup. He was a leading light of the Indian team in all the major tournaments, for a decade, from 1985-1995. Jagbir Singh also played other tournaments including two Asian Games of 1986 and 1990, the 1989 Asia Cup and Champions Trophy.

Jagbir Singh was awarded the Arjuna Award for Hockey by the Government of India in 1990 and Laxman Award by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2004.

He was described as a "Striking-circle assassin" during his playing days, the fleet-footed Sardar also had the honour of representing the All-Star Asia XI which won the "5 Continent World Classic Cup" in Kualalumpur in the year 1990. He played for World XI friendly match in the year 1993 in Monchengladbac. Jagbir Singh is an Indian player to play in Germany for HTC Stuttgart Kickers in the German Hockey "Bundesliga `Premier League" from 1992-1997.

Jagbir Singh was the coach of the Indian men`s team in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Test series against Pakistan, Spain, France and the Champions Trophy held the same year in Lahore, which is located in Pakistan.

Jagbir Singh has attended various International Hockey Federation (FIH) coaching seminars and "Advanced Coaching "courses of International Hockey Federation (FIH). International Hockey Federation appointed him as the Coaching Course Conductor for the Olympic Solidarity Coaching Programme held at Nepal in 2008. He is also the coach for Jaypee Punjab Warriors team in Hockey India League 2013. Hockey India League abbreviated as HIL is a professional league for field hockey competition in India. It is organised by Hockey India, a non governmental organisation.

Jagbir Singh showed his talent as a Television Commentator. He has been a popular commentator on television and a much-sought after columnist. He also served as an opinion-maker on hockey in several prestigious national and regional newspapers and magazines in India.

Jagbir Singh has been part of the commentary and became an Expert Analysis Team in almost all the major competitions like the Olympic, World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asia Cup, and other international and domestic tournaments on different national and international television broadcasting sports channels.
