Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya

Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya is a State administered University, that is located at Khairagarh in Chattisgarh.

Indira Kala Sangit VishwavidyalayaIndira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya was established in 1956 under the Act XIX of the Government of Madhya Pradesh. After the creation of Chattisgarh the Governor of Chattisgarh became the Chancellor of Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya. The University has forty-five affiliated colleges; one affiliated research center and several recognized examination centres throughout India.

When this University was set up in 1956, the rulers of Khairagarh gifted their palace to establish a University of Music and Fine Arts. Late Raja Birendra Bahadur Singh and Her majesty Late Rani Padmavati Devi named this University ` Indira` after their daughter who was fond of music.

This is the only university of performing and visual arts in Southeast Asia. It offers courses related to various art forms such as classical vocal music (Hindustani and Carnatic), classical instrumental music (Hindustani and carnatic), classical dance styles (Kathak and Bharatanatyam), folk dance and music, painting, sculpture and graphics. It teaches subjects such as History of Indian art and culture and various literatures. It also imparts education and conducts researches in Indian Performing Visual Art forms.
