Hymns on Vishwakarma

The hymns dedicated to Vishwakarma or the All-Maker has been identified as the artisan. He has also been imagined as a sculptor, a smith or as a wood-cutter or carpenter but he has also been imagined as the primeval sacrificer and victim of the sacrifice assisted by the seven sages. Finally he is identified with the one who propped apart the sky and the earth, the one who inspires thought and answers questions but is himself beyond understanding.

The hymns say that the All-Maker or Lord Vishwakarma casting his eye casting his eye on all, has created the earth and has revealed the sky in its glory. In the hymn the question which the worshipper has asked is that on what base the All-Maker stood when he had created this earth.

The hymns have asked that the worshippers to sacrifice their bodies in order to make it grow great in the real sense. It has been asked that the worshippers should be ever ready to sacrifice their bodies and the earth and the sky all created by the All-Maker in order to make themselves great.

The hymns dedicated to Vishwakarma have sung that the All-Maker or Vishwakarma has grown great through oblation. The All-Maker is the lord of sacred speech, swift as thought and that is the reason he has been invoked by his worshippers to help them in the contest.

The prayer which has come up through the hymns say that the All-Maker is the maker of all good things and is gentle to everyone. It has been wished that He should help the entire mankind with his blessings and give them the capacity to ward off all evils.

The hymns say that the All-Maker is vast in mind and vast in strength. He is the one who forms, who sets in order and who is the highest image. The Rig Vedic hymns have specified that the All- Maker has set all things in order and knows all forms and all worlds. It is to him that all the sages sacrifice riches and it is to whom all the other creatures question their existence. It is unto him all the unborn rests.

Finally the hymns on Vishwakarma end with saying that those creatures those who worship and sing the hymns of the lord are blessed with all the pleasures of life.
