Hymns in Book XVI of book Atharva Veda are nine in number. The first hymn based on the preparation and use of holy water along with a prayer for purification and liberty from sin. The second hymn is a magic to get various blessings. The following two hymns are again charms to secure power and long life. The fifth and sixth hymns are charms against evil dreams and shift it to an enemy. Imprecation on an enemy forms both seventh and eighth hymns. The final hymn is a charm used to secure wealth and happiness.
