Hymns in Book XII of Atharva Veda commences with a prayer and praise to Holy
Earth. The second hymn is on a funeral as well as criticism of Lord Agni as he is
considered as the consumer of dead bodies. The following hymn is an accompaniment to
the preparation and presentation of sacrificial offerings by a householder and his wife.
They pray for prosperity and happiness. The fourth hymn and the final hymns are on a
duty of giving cows to Brahmans and the offence of withholding the reward.
