Hari Krishan Kaul was born in the year 1934. He was a prominent Kashmiri author of drama and also short stories. Hari Krishan Kaul was a significant contributor to Kashmiri theatre since 1952. He has written some famous plays. The names can be mentioned as Yeli vatan khur chu yvan i.e. `When Paths Become a Maze`, Dastar i.e. `Turban`, Curfew, Yusuy zahar kheyi i.e. `One Who Takes Poison`, Dwad chhuy dawa i.e. `Milk Is Your Medicine`, Tshal i.e. `Ploy`, Paniny ti paridy i.e. `Friends and Foes`, Hisab kyitab i.e. `Arithmetic`, and Amar i.e. `Craving`. However, his Natuk keriv band i.e. `Stop the Drama` was first presented in 1977 by Rangmanch Dramatic Club at Tagore Hall in Srinagar. Subsequently by several other groups in various cities of India, remains his most renowned play. Using the traditional Dharmik dramatic form and the play-within-the-play as technique, Kaul achieves complete integration of his ideas with a highly structured series of events in this lacerating satire on contemporary politics.
